On all our weekend walks the following is necessary for each person:

 - Walking boots, suitable clothing (not jeans) including waterproof jacket and  trousers, rucksack and if you normally use them walking poles.

 - Full water bottle and/or thermos flask, adequate for your walk.

 - Extra clothing dependent on weather.

 - Food, unless the walk information indicates that there will be facilities on the way

 - Emergency rations.

 - Any medicines you might need.

 

For walks in the winter (i.e. November and February) or our May and September walks if high mountains are included add:

 - a torch and spare batteries.

 - a whistle.

 - additional warm clothing, including hat and gloves.

 - high-energy rations such as mint cake, chocolate, dried fruit.

 

The leader of the walk should ensure that the following are taken on the walk although he/she may delegate other members to carry:

 - Map, compass and navigation equipment

 - A survival bag (CARC has purchased two * 5 survival bags c/o Secretary)

 - Mobile phone

 - A first aid kit (CARC has purchased one c/o Treasurer)

The walk leader will normally give a short briefing prior to the walk and ensure that other members with leader experience have maps and understand the walk planned.
